withtheobservedarrivaldirections.Galacticandintergalacticmagnetic eldsappearunabletoalterthedirectionofsuchenergeticparticlesbymorethanafewdegrees.WealsodiscusssomeotheroptionsfortheseeventsassociatedwithrelativisticparticlesincludingpulsaraccelerationofhighZnuclei.Atthepresentstageofknowledgetheconceptoftopologicaldefectsleftoverfromtheearlyuniverseasthesourceforsucheventsappearstobeapromisingoption.Suchsourcesarediscussedandpossibletestsofthishypothesisareproposed.
