.not only … but also …”是一个并列连词词组，连接两个并列成分，意思是不仅······而且······,其侧重点放在“but also”上。also可以省略。

e.g.他不仅喜欢游泳而且喜欢唱歌。

He likes not only swimming but also singing.

Sandy not only gave me some advice but (also) helped me with English.

➢Not only…but also…在连接两个主语时，随后的谓语动词应采取“就近原则”，即谓语动词要与后面的主语在数和人称上保持一致。

e.g. 不仅是同学们，而且他们的老师也误了校车

Not only the students but also their teacher has missed the school bus.

Not only Jack but also his parents are interested in that film.

链接初中阶段常见的使用“就近原则”的句型：

1. either…or…要么······要么······/不是······就是······

Either you or I am right.

2. neither…nor…既不······也不······/两者都不······
